Olhando para trás assim de repente parece estranho que tenha passado dez anos do lançamento do Midnite Vultures, 4º álbum do Beck editado pelas companhias de David Geffen, mais uma reviravolta na sua carreira, business as usual.

Lembro-me de ter comprado o cd, edição digipack, na Vitavideo, na altura ainda não havia fnacs, ou pelo menos eu não me lembro disso, na altura comprava os discos no continente, na vitavideo, nas lojas de discos em coimbra quando ia para os estágios de judo, e, claro, em Lisboa na Valentim de Carvalho ou na Virgin Megastore. Fnacs não existiam, parece mentira, não é?

O disco era mais uma misturada. Depois do Mutations um disco tão up beat parecia excessivo, era r&b, disco, electrónica, era o Prince a pairar, não parecia nada como os anteriores, talvez era o resultado de tocar com tanta gente e da loucura de final de século. Mas era um grande party álbum e era de um humor delirante, mas o Beck do costume estava lá e estava bem acompanhado pela magnífica Beth Orton na Beautiful Way.

E para promover o álbum foram produzidos grandes clips, como este Mixed Bizness

O beck! voltou à carga com mais um records club e desta vez o alvo foi o Oar do Skip Spence, um álbum mítico de uma das personagens mais alucinadas do mundo do rock'n'roll. Não é a primeira vez que o Beck! se aventura com músicas do Skip Spence, já havia feito uma versão da Halo of Gold por alturas do Mutations. Desta vez Beck! junta-se a uma das melhores (se não mesmo a melhor) bandas da actualidade - os Wilco. Leslie Feist e Jamie Lidell também dão o seu contributo. É talvez a música mais coesa a sair deste records club. Enjoy

Quase a comemorar três anos de concertos regulares em Rio Maior, os MAIORAIS têm o prazer de apresentar ao vivo os BLACK DIAMOND HEAVIES no bar NOVA FONTE VELHA em Rio Maior.
Este super-duo de Nashville Tennessee, terra de Bourbon e boa música, junta dois fiéis pregadores de Gospel, criando aquilo que eles próprios designam de Punk-ass Blues. John Wesley Myers (voz e teclas) e Van Campbell (bateria) vêm a Rio Maior baptizar com rasgadas notas de Hammond e Fender Rhodes e a batida frenética da bateria, fiéis da boa música com alma.
Myers, filho de um pastor de uma Igreja Baptista e Campbell descendente de uma família de produtores de Bourbon perto de Tennessee, trazem a dureza e a ferocidade de uns Blues Punk e Rock’n’roll sujos, imbuídos em Soul, amplificados pela experiência e voz de Wesley, antigo membro dos incontornáveis the Immortal Lee County Killers, cujo registo vocal ecoa Tom Waits, Howlin' Wolf e Captain Beefheart, e a singularidade criativa de Campbell.
O duo promete incendiar o palco da Nova Fonte Velha em Rio Maior com a força sobrenatural da sua música, a mesma com que vêm incendiando palcos nos Estados Unidos da América e na Europa, agradando tanto a fãs como à crítica. Apenas com 4 datas em Portugal, numa extensa digressão europeia com apresentações em vários países – PT, ES, FR, DE, BE e CH –, a data de Rio Maior fica para a história como a primeira data desta tournée Europeia e o primeiro grande concerto internacional promovido pelos MAIORAIS no bar NOVA FONTE VELHA.

São a prova de que os grandes intérpretes de Blues não vêm todos das lamacentas margens do delta do Mississípi, aqui bem perto, nas lamacentas margens do delta do Tejo também se canta com uma alma do tamanho do universo. A não perder, conta quem viu – e nós assinamos por baixo convictamente – que no final tudo se resume a essencialmente um concerto fora de série…
